2011 In Movies

Love the end of the year! The best of lists come out!

All content from nextmovie.com

The results of our comprehensive battery of year end polls are in and with nearly a million votes cast (!) the message couldn't be more clear, as "Harry Potter" and "The Hunger Games" battled it out with "Twilight" and "Thor" for fan supremacy in nearly every category.

How lopsided were the final results? Well, in the voting for Best Movie of 2011, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2" edged out "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1" by a margin of 51.55% to 47.99%, with the other four candidates — "Bridesmaids," "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo," "The Help" and "The Muppets" — combining for only .46% of the vote.

This just in: People really love "Harry Potter" and "Twilight."

Of course, the heated rivalry between fans of "Harry Potter" and "Twilight" has been raging for years, but with "Harry Potter" coming to an end this year and "Twilight" entering its own twilight, it appears fans have already picked proxies, with the "Harry Potter" contingent throwing its support behind "The Hunger Games" and the "Twilight" crowd backing "Thor," thanks no doubt in large part to the fact that Kristen Stewart is about to star in the new "Snow White" franchise opposite "Thor" hunk Chris Hemsworth.

You want evidence? Check this out: In the race for the Movie Most Looked Forward To in 2012, "The Hunger Games" beat "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2" 51% to 45%, with "The Avengers," "The Dark Knight," "The Amazing Spider-Man" and "The Hobbit" -- generally considered to be four of the biggest releases of the upcoming year -- combining for just 4% of the vote.

And the fight between Twihards and non-Twihards spilled out into other categories as well. Ron and Hermione, for instance, won Best On Screen Couple over Edward and Bella by the razor thin margin of 49.8% to 49.4%, with the rest of the field earning .6% combined. Meanwhile, "Thor"'s Tom Hiddleston pummeled Lord Voldemort Ralph Fiennes in the Best Villain category, 71% to 22%, while Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner crushed the Hottest Dude category, earning totals of 52% and 43% respectively to lap the field.

More proof? "Water For Elephants" —which stars Pattinson, of course — and "Breaking Dawn - Part 1" earned 55% and 38% respectively in the Movie the Ladies Loved category, while "Thor" obliterated the competition in the Best Action Movie arena with a whopping 82% of the vote; the nearest competitor, "X-Men: First Class," earned just 4%. "Thor" star Chris Hemsworth also finished near the top in the Biggest Breakout Star category, just being edged out by Michael Fassbender, 44% to 43%, but Stewart avenged her "Snow White and the Huntsman" co-star by beating Fassbender in the Best Nude Scene category, 59% to 39%.

In non-"Twilight" categories, "Bridesmaids" edged out "The Hangover Part II" for Best Comedy (26% to 25%), "Jack and Jill" took the title of Worst Movie (27% to "Green Lantern's" 21%) and Mila Kunis ("Friends with Benefits") defeated Olivia Wilde ("The Change-Up," "Cowboys & Aliens") for Hottest babe by the score of 49% to 43%. Where was Professor McGonagall when you needed her?
